South Motors BWM Reviews:
While this is not your typical press release, I felt compelled to share my BMW 328i experience at South Motors BMW located at 16215 South Dixie Hwy Miami, Fl 33157. As an writer and web marketer, I understand the importance of consumer reviews and the impact they have on businesses. I wish South Motors BMW did also.
The sale…
This was my first BMW purchase and I have to say the experience was pretty good when I bought it. The sales person “Butch” was very professional and knowledgeable although I might have tired him out with all my questions. The sales manager, Alfred, was very persuasive and good at what he does.
“As if the situation was not bad enough, South Motors continued to show their incompetence…”
I chose a 2011 BMW 328i with limited options and my goal was to keep my payments the same as what I already had. Alfred jumped at it and said he could do it! I had a trade in and owed about 3400 on it + I came in with 3k down. Alfred said he would pay off my trade balance and the finance would cover on the the BMW but… I looked closer recently at my sales contract and to my surprise, after the trade off entry appears, another debit of 3400 dollars appears a few lines below it: I will talk about the interesting finance tactics later but for now I want to focus on my real issue with BMW South Motors, here is my story:
The problems start
Two months after I bought the demo car, I took it in for service because I had my check engine light on and I wanted my tires rotated (new ones on front). The check light should not come on so soon on a new car but when I spoke with Steven, the service tech, he said the code was related to the gas. Either I put gas with the car running or the cap was not tightly closed.
Neither of these were true and I also complained that i smelled gas but we did not think much of it because my MPG was about 20.1, not bad actually.
Fast forward about two weeks, 4/24/2011, I fill up my tank with $55.00 and then drove to the post office (although it was closed, I used the automated machine) when a total stranger asks if the car outside belongs to me because it is leaking gas. The car was in fact leaking gas through the left driver rear tire and the leak was big! Remember when I told Steven the service tech I smelled gas during my last visit and the check engine light? Well here’s where it gets complicated.
After the Fire department incident number: 1083076 came out two times (they came out twice!) I had the car towed to our great South Motors for service the following morning. The next morning, I arrived at South Motors around 8 a.m. and was given a loaner but told by Steven that it did not look like this would be covered. He suggested that I might have ran over something that caused the leak…
Let’s stop for a moment, remember I live in Miami, FL, and last time I checked, I only drive local and highway streets, nothing that would be high enough to cause damage to the tank. Not to mention, there is no visible damage to my tires or bumper that would suggest I caused the damage. Another thing, remember when I had my tires rotated??? well, I suspect someone at the dealer caused the damage to the tank and it only became visible with a full tank due to the pressure.
To make a long story longer, I decided to write this article to:
1) Reach out to anyone that has had any problems with South Motors. If you have a bad experience, please comment below.
2) Bring forth attention to the problems that the BMW 328i could have with such a poorly positioned gas tank.
and
3) Hopefully get the attention of South Motors BMW and get them to look at things in a different way and hope they help out one of their new customers.
I will give an update in the next few days. By the way, the repair is going to be about $1800!
A new BMW with a broken gas tank, stay tuned…
April 27, 2011 (Day two)
My Progressive insurance claims adjuster arrived at South Motors BMW and he meets with the service tech and Carlos, the service manager then calls me and lets me know he has cut South Motors a check on my behalf and I would have to pay my deductible.
I told him to please wait for me and I should be there in a few moments. When I arrive, I speak to Carlos and the insurance adjuster and tried to explain that the so called puncture hole to the gas tank was not my fault. Since Progressive already cut a check, I asked Carlos one final time if he would work with me and leave the insurance company out of it. He did not and gave me some explanation that since the insurance was going to cover, he did not have to.
April 30, 2011 (Pick up day)
I received a call from the service tech, Steve and was told the insurance Progressive had incorrectly assessed the exhaust pipe damage. You see, Even, from Progressive made his claim based on the fact that the exhaust pipe had a dent towards the end of the car. Carlos, the service manager was in front of us while Progressive explained it and Carlos agreed. Progressive cut a check to replace the tank and the entire exhaust pipe but Steve, who apparently is a very honest person, told me that was normal. So…. if Progressive based the tank’s break on the fact that there was a dent in the tailpipe, but the dent is normal, then it follows that the gas tank break was not caused by any such “collision” I did.
My point continues to be that since this was a demo car, the problem with the tank was a preexisting condition. At any rate, I pay my deductible with the cashier and the car is brought up. I check it before driving away and discover a bunch of grease stains on the driver side door where the cloth is.
As if the situation was not bad enough, South Motors continued to show their incompetence.
Summary
In the end, I have to pay my insurance deductible, South Motors BMW turns their back on a new customer and my insurance premium is likely to go up…
What’s the learning lesson here? I’ll tell you: DO NOT BUY FROM SOUTH MOTORS BMW.
Lessons learned
If you can take anything away from my story I think you should take the following:
1. If you must buy a demo, check it, check it check it.
2. Make sure you are getting a good deal. Check the contract and ensure there are no extra entries. Look, if a dealer pays off your trade, there is no need for it to show up in your new contract.
3. Avoid buying from South Motors BMW located at: 16215 South Dixie Hwy Miami, Fl 33157 instead, try:
